Why IoT

I could just try and tell you that you should connect because it’s cool, and you can beat out your neighbors on how many things are hanging off your router. That could be the topic of this thought, but if that idea works for you, then this conversation is already over.

For those still around… Connecting, and the IoT (Internet of Things), shouldn’t be about quantity, they should be about quality. More specifically, quality of your life. Who has enough time to get it all done? Don’t try and kid me. You don’t. Neither do I. Soccer game for the oldest, dinner in the oven, laundry overflowing in the hamper, bath for the baby, and then of course you have to squeeze work in somewhere. Connecting is about making your life easier. Making a chore easier. Freeing you up to think more about the things that matter in life. You should be able to select the right temp for the water heater remotely. Who wants to go into the cellar, and then get down on their knees to look at a temp dial that is three inches off the floor? Or worse yet, then go back upstairs to find the flashlight you forgot on the first trip? Did you really need those extra stair steps to add to your fitbit® total for the day? Maybe, but how about you walk somewhere interesting next time instead?

Connect because it makes your life easier. See if the towels are dry while reading a book on the couch. Start that full dishwasher from the train. (You know…the one your wife told you to start when she left for work this morning.) Turn the thermostat back while eating dinner at your favorite restaurant. Adjust your water heater temperature to save the most on your energy bill. Save a few bucks, avoid a city brownout, and earn a few earth friendly points by reducing your energy consumption. Connect when it’s easy but feel free to rag on the manufacturers if they make connecting too hard. For heaven sakes it’s 2017. Connect!

Or better yet, connect but don’t do any of that other stuff. Sit back and relax while Virtual Peaker does it for you.
